Rooted in Craft, Carried by Soul

The Journey of Two Worlds United Through Jewelry

Origins

Heritage of Craftsmanship

The roots of Damai Designs trace back to two distinct but parallel paths - one beginning in Taxco, Mexico, and the other in Bali, Indonesia. Jael Ramon was born into a family of jewelers from Taxco, a city renowned for its sterling silver artistry. Surrounded by generations of jewelers, Jael developed an early appreciation for craftsmanship and tradition, eventually taking the reins of his family's business. Meanwhile, in Bali, Ravinder and Vikas Chahal were laying the foundation for Kanaya Silver, a company built on respect for ancient techniques and a deep admiration for the island's culture.

Though their journeys began oceans apart, they were shaped by a shared commitment to preserving traditional artistry while embracing modern design. Jael’s passion for jewelry—infused with story, soul, and symbolism—naturally aligned with the values behind Kanaya Silver. It was only a matter of time before their paths crossed, setting the stage for a meaningful collaboration.

The Founders of Kanaya Silver

Ravinder and Vikas Chahal, the brothers behind Kanaya Silver, came to the jewelry world from unexpected origins. Raised in a family of educators and professionals, their journey into jewelry was sparked by global travels and an encounter with Bali’s artisans that changed everything. In 2021, they officially founded Kanaya Silver, starting with just one artisan and a vision to elevate handcrafted jewelry while treating artisans with dignity and respect.

In just two years, Kanaya Silver grew into one of the fastest-growing jewelry manufacturers in Bali, employing over 40 skilled artisans and a support team that shares their ethical and creative values. The brothers built a vertically integrated system that manages every step of the process - from gemstone sourcing to final quality control - ensuring consistency, efficiency, and fair wages for all. Their integrity was put to the test when a major U.S. retailer offered to buy them out; the brothers declined, choosing instead to remain independent and protect the creative freedom of their team. That same spirit would soon inspire the founding of Damai Designs.

Crafted by Connection

Three founders, one vision—uniting heritage and inspiration.

Meeting & Collaboration with Jael Ramon

When Jael first encountered the work being done at Kanaya Silver, he was captivated not just by the exceptional craftsmanship but by the spirit behind it. The more he learned about their process, values, and team, the more he saw an opportunity—not just to admire their work, but to build something new with it. Ravinder and Vikas recognized in Jael a kindred spirit: a designer with a deep understanding of the market, a respect for heritage, and a desire to build something meaningful.

Their collaboration was born from a shared appreciation for storytelling through design. Jael brought a designer’s eye, decades of industry experience, and a deep emotional connection to the jewelry trade. The Chahals offered the infrastructure, artisan network, and production strength to make his vision real. Together, they decided to create a new brand—one that would bridge continents, cultures, and aesthetics.

Launching Damai Designs

Damai Designs was founded as a U.S.-based brand that would bring the richness of Balinese craftsmanship to a broader audience, especially within the American market. The name “Damai,” meaning “peace” in Indonesian, reflects the brand’s ethos: balance, harmony, and soulful creation. With Jael leading the creative direction and Kanaya Silver providing production support, Damai launched its first collections in 2024.

Each piece combines traditional Balinese motifs—dragons, turtles, sacred symbols—with modern silhouettes and wearable designs. Damai Designs uses 925 sterling silver with carefully selected gemstones like opal, turquoise, and abalone to reflect the natural beauty of the region. Jael’s design direction ensures the jewelry resonates with American tastes while honoring the island’s cultural stories. The result is a unique blend of old and new: handcrafted pieces that speak to both history and innovation.

Rooted in Purpose

Honoring Values, Growing Globally, and Shaping Tomorrow

Values, Growth and the Path Forward

Damai Designs is more than a jewelry company - it’s a commitment to ethical production, cultural preservation, and design-driven storytelling. Every piece is handmade, every artisan is fairly compensated, and every design carries meaning. By keeping production in Bali through Kanaya Silver, the brand helps sustain local livelihoods and ancient traditions while offering something fresh and inspiring to buyers abroad.

Looking forward, Damai is building relationships with boutique stores, television retailers, and online wholesalers throughout the United States. The company’s growing reputation for quality, consistency, and story-rich design is helping it stand out in a crowded market. Whether it’s a dragon pendant representing protection, or a floral ring inspired by Balinese temple gardens, Damai’s pieces invite the wearer to connect with something deeper. With a foundation built on trust, respect, and collaboration, the future of Damai Designs is as bright as the silver it celebrates.

“The path ahead for Damai Designs is not just forward, but inward - where silver carries the soul of tradition, and every design is a step toward a more beautiful, meaningful world.” - Jael Ramon
